Homers hurt the Jays

The Jays lost 3-2 against the Rays in game 2 of the series, R.A Dickey got the start for the Jays and gave up one run in the six innings he pitched. The bullpen gave up two one run homeruns to the Rays. Aaron Loup and Ryan Tepera gave up those homeruns and let another good start go to waste as the offense couldn’t pick up the slack. Jose Reyes went 2-4. Edwin Encarnacion, Devon Travis and Kevin Pillar all hit a double. Jose Bautista hit his 18th homerun of the season.

The Jays finish the series tomorrow against the Rays before going on the road again, where they will face the Oakland A’s next.

Jays backed by Bats win against Phillies

The Jays won their spring training home opener 7-5 over the Phillies, backed by strong hitting by Jose Bautista 2-2 with a walk and two doubles, Brett Lawrie who went 2-3 with a double, Moises Sierra who went 1-4 with a double and 2 runs scored, and Melky Cabrera who went 1-3 with a double and two RBI’s. Jose Reyes went 1-3 with an RBI. Edwin Encarnacion went 1-3 with two strikeouts. Maicer Izturis went 1-2 with a run scored. In Eric Kratz first game as a Jay he went 0-3 with one passed ball.

Starting the Game for the Jays today was R.A. Dickey and he pitched his two inning in preparation for opening day giving up two hits and two walks and one unearned run while striking out two. After Dickey, Esmil Rogers came on to pitch giving up two runs in his inning of work. Dustin McGowan then pitched a perfect inning. McGowan’s perfect inning was followed by Aaron Loup giving up one run in his inning of work. Jeremy Jeffress then pitched one inning giving up one hit and a walk but no runs. Rob Rasmussen then got his first work as a Jay and pitched a good inning giving up one hit. Marcus Walden finished the game out for the Jays getting a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

Jays lose to Yankees in 11

The Jays lost 5-3 to the Yankees. Mark Buehrle started for the Jays and pitched seven innings giving up three runs while striking out seven. Esmil Rogers pitched the eight inning giving up one hit. Casey Janssen pitched the ninth getting one punch-out. Aaron Loup pitched a solid tenth inning but then pitched to three batters in the eleventh getting no runs and giving up two runs, neither of which were earned. Loup got the loss (1-1). Steve Delabar finished the game getting two strikeouts.

Rajai Davis went 1-5 with an RBI (2).  Melky Cabrera went 2-5 with two RBI’s (5). Jose Bautista went 1-4 with a double. Edwin Encarnacion went 0-4. J.P. Arencibia went 0-5.  Brett Lawrie went 0-5. Colby Rasmus went 0-4. Maicer Izturis went 1-4.

Jays split series with White Sox

The Jays won game four against the White Sox 3-1. R.A Dickey started and pitched six shutout innings giving up two hits and one walk while striking out seven.  Esmil Rogers then pitched the next 1.1 innings giving up one run.  Aaron Loup finished the eight inning giving up one hit. Casey Janssen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning getting the save (5).

Rajai Davis went 2-4 with two stolen bases (4), a double (3), and one RBI (1). Melky Cabrera went 0-4 with three strikeouts. J.P. Arencibia went 0-3 with two strikeouts. Edwin Encarnacion went 1-3 with an RBI (7) and a stolen base (1). Brett Lawrie went -3. Maicer Izturis went 1-3. Emilio Bonifacio went 0-1 with a walk and a run scored. Henry Blanco went 0-3. Munenori Kawasaki went 0-3 with an RBI (2).

Jays win first game against White Sox

The Jays beat the White Sox 4-3.  Mark Buehrle started for the Jays and pitched 6.1 innings giving up nine hits and two runs.  Esmil Rogers then pitched the next inning.  He was followed by Aaron Loup who pitched 0.2 innings giving up a run.  Casey Janssen came in to get the save in the ninth and he struck out the first two batters, and then got a groundball to the shortstop to end the game.  He got his fourth save.

Emilio Bonifacio lead off for the Jays and went 1-3 with a double and an RBI (4). Melky Cabrera went 0-2 with a walk and a RBI (2).  J.P. Arencibia went 1-4 with a homerun (4) and  an RBI (9). Adam Lind went 2-3 with a double. Mark Derosa went 0-4.  Colby Rasmus went 1-3. Maicer Izturis went 1-4 with an RBI (2). Munenori Kawasaki went 1-4 with a triple (1).

Jays win game three first win of the season

In game three of the series of with the Indians, the Jays won 10-8.  Mark Buehrle started for the Jays and started the game well striking out the first two batters he faced before giving up back to back doubles. Buehrle pitched 5.1 innings giving up seven hits and six runs, he struck out four. Steve Delabar came in to finish the sixth inning and gave up one hit, he got the win (1-0).   Aaron Loup started the seventh inning and went 0.2 of an inning giving up one run. Esmil Rogers finished the inning.  Darren Oliver pitched the eight and gave up three hits and one run.  Casey Janssen came in to pitch the ninth inning and had a 1-2-3 inning getting two strikeouts and the save (1).

Jose Reyes crossed home plate a lot tonight going 1-3 with two walks and scoring three runs. Reyes also had his first stolen base of the year. Melky Cabrera went 0-3 with two walks and a run scored. Jose Bautista went 1-4 with a walk, homerun (2) and three RBI’s (4). Edwin Encarnacion went 1-4 with a walk, and a homerun.  In the process Edwin collected three RBI’s (3).  Adam Lind went 0-4 and will be looking for his first hit of the season tomorrow night. J.P. Arencibia had a great game going 3-4 with two homeruns (2), getting two RBI’s (2). Mark Derosa went 0-4. Colby Rasmus went 1-4 with a solo homerun (1), getting him his first RBI (1). Emilio Bonifacio went 2-4 with a double.

The Red Sox come to Toronto to play the Jays in a three game series.

Opening Day

The Jays had their opening day in Toronto this year against the same opponents as last year the Cleveland Indians.  Last year they won in 16 innings.  This year they lost 4-1 in the regular nine.  R.A. Dickey started for the Jays and pitched six innings giving up four runs, three of which were earned, with four strikeouts.

Aaron Loup then came on to pitch and pitched 1.1 good innings giving up one hit and one walk.  Then Sergio Santos came on and showed us what he could do giving up a hit while striking out two. Brett Cecil pitched the ninth inning getting one strikeout. Jose Reyes lead off for the Jays and walked in the first inning and then went 0-3. Melky Cabrera went 1-4 with a run scored. Jose Bautista went 1-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Edwin Encarnacion went 0-2 with a walk.  Adam Lind went 0-4 with a strikeouts and hit into a bases loaded double play, the Jays only run scored then.  J.P. Arencibia went 1-4 with two strikeouts but he hit a double (1). Colby Rasmus had a rough night going 0-3 with a hat trick of strikeouts. Maicer Izturis went 0-3. Emilio Bonifacio went 1-3 with a double (1).
