The Jays lost 3-2 against the Rays in game 2 of the series, R.A Dickey got the start for the Jays and gave up one run in the six innings he pitched. The bullpen gave up two one run homeruns to the Rays. Aaron Loup and Ryan Tepera gave up those homeruns and let another good start go to waste as the offense couldn’t pick up the slack. Jose Reyes went 2-4. Edwin Encarnacion, Devon Travis and Kevin Pillar all hit a double. Jose Bautista hit his 18th homerun of the season.
The Jays finish the series tomorrow against the Rays before going on the road again, where they will face the Oakland A’s next.
The Jays had a 7-2 lead going into the 8th inning before Deck Mcquire gave up four runs in his 1.1 innings of work on four hits and one walk, the Jays brought in Marcus Walden to try to finish the inning off with a lead still intact before the inning was over Walden gave up three runs all unearned on three hits. Marcus Walden got the loss as well as a blown save. Drew Hutchison started for the Jays and struck out four in his two innings of work while giving up one hit and no walks. Following Drew Hutchison, Marcus Stroman came in to pitch and gave up two runs in his two innings of work. Ricky Romero pitched next throwing 11 pitches, only three of which were strikes, he walked two batters in his inning of work. Mickey Storey pitched the 7th getting a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.
Jose Reyes lead off for the Jays and went 0-3 so far this spring his average is .111. Batting 2nd was Melky Cabrera went 1-3 with a double and is hitting .375 this spring. Jose Bautista went 0-3. Adam Lind went 1-3. Kevin Pillar went 0-2. Chris Getz went 2-3 with a double and a triple and one RBI. Steve Tolleson went 1-2. Dan Johnson who pinch hit for Tolleson in the 6th went 1-2 with a three run homer. Josh Thole went 1-2.
